My 2017 Reading List!

At the beginning of this year, I made a goal to read 12 books. One for every month of 2017! I’ve never been much of a reader, but I know the importance of reading and the knowledge you can gain from doing it!

It definitely takes some discipline to make it a habit, but I managed to finish the first book of the year! I read “The Meaning of Marriage” by Timothy Keller!

I loved what he and his wife Kathy had to say about marriage. Here are a couple of my favourite quotes from the book:

  • “The gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.”

  • “Within this Christian vision of marriage, here’s what it means to fall in love. It is to look at another person and get a glimpse of what God is creating, and to say, “I see who God is making you, and it excites me! I want to be part of that. I want to partner with you and God in the journey you are taking to his throne. And when we get there, I will look at your magnificence and say, ‘I always knew you could be like this. I got glimpses of it on earth, but now look at you!”

  • “When over the years someone has seen you at your worst, and knows you with all your strengths and flaws, yet commits him- or herself to you wholly, it is a consummate experience. To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.”

My other goal alongside reading 12 books this year, was that I wanted to read books that will apply to where I am in life right now! Which means I’m going to be reading books on Marriage (I’m getting married in 5 months!) Business (I’m running a photography business). Then there are some just for fun!

In the future I would love to add books on Health, Fitness and Finances! I think it is so valuable to learn from other people that aren’t in your immediate friend circle and what better way to do that then by reading books!

Below you’ll find that I’ve linked all the books to Amazon.ca. So, if you’re interested in finding out more about the books I’ll be reading take a look! You can also follow along the hashtag #rachelkeyesreads on Instagram to keep up with what book I’m on!
